Green Canyon is a unique reserve, which is located 40 km from Side, in the Taurus Mountains. The canyon is located on the banks of the Oimapinar artificial reservoir, formed in 1977. A 185 m high dam blocked the mountain gorge, where 27 rivers flow from the foothills of the Taurus. The average depth of the reservoir is 130 m, in some places it is twice as much, the steep banks are overgrown with dense forest. Pure turquoise water is cold and the temperature never exceeds +12 ° C, swim in the water for a long time is impossible. Even on the hottest days, it is cool near the reservoir. Here you can go fishing and just admire the views of the reserve from the observation deck. The pier is also located here, from where both group and individual boat tours depart daily.

Oymapınar Dam is the fourth highest dam in Turkey. Oymapınar is the only dam in Turkey where boat trips are allowed.

When filling the gorge, the ruins of ancient Roman aqueducts, which once supplied Side with fresh water, went to the bottom. There are no historical sights here, but their absence is fully compensated by the magnificent nature, clean air and peace poured into it. In the narrowness of the canyon, on sheer cliffs among the pines, black wild goats graze, it is not clear how they do not fall from the stones.

✔️ Continuation of the walk. You can try your luck at fishing, canoeing, take a swim break.
